Utica-Rome Speedway’s August 9th Program Falls to Rain, Cole Cup Up Next August 17th

Story By: CHRIS MOORE / UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY – VERNON, NY – For the second consecutive Friday, Utica-Rome Speedway has canceled the night of racing due to precipitation.

Rain beginning Thursday afternoon carrying through the evening and forecasted throughout Friday gave no other option to speedway management but to cancel the event presented by Algonkin Motel/Slade Automotive and Wilcox Construction.

The ‘Home of Heroes’ will switch to Saturday night action August 17 for the return of the ‘Cole Cup.’

The Empire Super Sprints (ESS) bring the 360 Sprint Cars to the half-mile oval for for a $5,000-to-win main event.

Sprakers, N.Y.’s Stewart Friesen was victorious in the lone ESS Sprint Car event back on July 4 in the ‘Bill Shea Memorial.’

The night of racing also serves as the finale to the ’24 F.X. Caprara Car Companies Thunder on the Thruway Series.

The 3 Bastards Brewing Modifieds race for a $4,000 top prize in the championship round of the six-race series between Utica-Rome and Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway.

The Taylor’s Trailers LLC Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,500-to-win) and Next Generation Graphix Pro Stocks ($1,000-to-win) complete the action-packed night of racing.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Hot laps take place at 6 p.m. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $25 (Adults), $23 (Seniors ages 65 and up) and Kids 11 and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $45 (Non-Members), $40 (Members), $10 Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 Children ages 5 and under.
