Story By: BRAD STRAWSER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – The Port Royal Speedway team has made the unfortunate decision to cancel racing activities on Saturday August 31st due to heavy rain received in the borough and the damage that took place throughout the fairground.
The borough of Port Royal received over 8 inches of rain in a 4 hour period on Thursday evening, flooding many areas throughout the fairgrounds. Concessions stands, seating area, the tunnel to the infield, and other buildings throughout the grounds took on water and had the focus of the fair board throughout the day on Friday. The speedway team evaluated the racing surface and determined there would be no way the track could be properly prepared for racing on Saturday.
The scheduled Butch Renninger Memorial for the Selinsgrove Ford Super Late Models will run their portion of the event on Friday September 6th alongside Kubota High Limit Racing on The Night Before the 50.
The Zimmerman Truck Repair Limited Late Models will make up their portion of the event during Monday’s Labor Day Classic presented by Foss Jewelers Inc.
The Juniata County Agricultural Society, Juniata County Fair Board, and Port Royal Speedway team are hard at work to repair all the areas throughout the grounds to ensure racing activities continue throughout fair week and look to be back in action on Monday September 2nd for the Labor Day Classic.
