Brady Fultz Claims ’24 Woodhull Modified Track Title In Hard-Fought Battle With Stacy Jackson

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – The Woodhull Raceway wrapped up their 2024 Season Point Championship Night with multiple feature winners and some fresh faces to win Track Titles,

In the Insinger Performance Modified twenty-five lap feature it came down to a pair of titans in the sport as Brady Fultz of Dundee, NY maintained a slim point margin over Woodhull’s Stacy Jackson heading into the decisive point event of the season.

A solid eighteen car field was brought to the line by Jackson’s teammate and hired gun for the B H Logging Team, Jake Dgien along with outside front row starter, Russ Morseman.

Jackson would start the event outside row three with Fultz lined up on his rear bumper outside row four.

With Dgien safely in control all eyes were on Jackson and Fultz as the pair would work their way into second and third with Fultz getting the advantage coming through traffic.

With the laps winding down and Dgien comfortable out in front a caution flag would wave on lap eighteen bunching the field and giving Jackson one last shot at Fultz, however Fultz was able to maintain his runner-up status and as the field flashed under the double checkered flags it was Jake Dgien taking his second victory of the season after claiming the win back on June 1, 2024.

Fultz was able to hold on for second, but the drive of the night came from recent Corning High School Graduate and now College Student, Aiden Grover who began the feature mired in the sixteenth starting slot.

Using some nifty moves and the yellow flags to his advantage, Grover was able to work his way through traffic and around Jackson in the closing laps to claim the third and final podium spot.

Stacy Jackson gave the Brad and Kim Herrington owned machine a great ride, but he came up just short at the finish claiming fourth.

Like Grover, Joe Dgien was also buried deep in the opening grid starting in spot twelve and was able to move forward in completing the top five.

For Brady Fultz car owner, Herbie Wright it was his first ever Woodhull Raceway Modified Track Championship as an owner after having his own storied career on the High Banked One-Third of a Mile Oval.

Likewise for Fultz it too was his first ever Modified Track Championship not only at Woodhull but also the Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY where he has competed for many years in his family-owned ride.

Prior to taking the opening green flag in the twenty-five lap Hometown Excavation Crate Sportsman feature event, second generation Addison, NY pilot, Kenny Peoples Jr. had already clinched the 2024 title which also made it back-to-back championships in the division.

By the luck of the re-draw, Peoples and sophomore season competitor, Glenn Trowbridge would bring the eighteen- car field to green with Peoples immediately showing his muscle and taking command of the top spot.

Inside row two starter, Quintin Buchanan lined up behind Peoples on the opening grid and dropped in behind the 2024 Track Champion where he would dog the race leader throughout the entire distance having to settle for a well-deserved runner-up finish at the double checkered flags.

Like Peoples and Buchanan, Rathbone speedster and veteran Woodhull Raceway competitor, Tim Guild would also begin the event with an inside row starting position lining up inside row three behind Buchanan and would go on to complete the podium at the end of the A Main.

Another Woodhull veteran and Montour Falls, NY resident, Dale Welty would begin the event along side Guild in row three and go on the nail fourth at the finish with 2022 Woodhull Raceway Sportsman Track Champion, Isabel Barron of Corning going on to complete the top five after advancing from the tenth starting position.

For Peoples Jr. his victory was the ninth time his potent 5K machine has graced Woodhull’s Pepsi Victory Lane in 2024.

Like Peoples before him, Empire Crushing RUSH Crate Late Model standout competitor, Brett Marlatt of Canisteo had already clinched the class Track Championship in only his third full season in the division after claiming the 2022 Rookie of the Year Title.

Joe Layfield and young gun, Rickie Loucks would lead the charge of the six-car field under green, but it was Marlatt taking control early on from his inside row two starting position and never looking back in claiming win number six on the campaign.

Last week’s feature winner, Steve LeBarron of Troupsburg put in another solid effort beginning the twenty -lap feature alongside Marlatt in row two but came up just short at the finish and had to settle for the runner-up spot.

Corning, NY’s Brian Knowles came from inside the last starting row to complete the top three with Bolivar’s Joe Layfield, Rickie Loucks and Marshall O’Brian rounding the field.

For Loucks of Campbell, he was racing with a heavy heart as his grandmother and faithful Woodhull Raceway supporter for decades, Pam Mills Krise had passed away the day prior after a courageous battle with cancer.

Eleven of the Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks would line up for the classes twenty-lap feature with all eyes on current point leader, Clayton Mclean and second place point man, Teddy Morseman as the two would slug it out for the 2024 Track Championship.

McLean entered the event with a bit of a cushion in the points including five feature wins on the season versus just one for Morseman who was looking to backup his 2023 Track Title.

Morseman Jr. and veteran Lawrenceville, Pa. competitor, Mick Seeley would bring the field to the opening green with Morseman getting the jump and going on to win two on the season after claiming his first back on May 4, 2024.

Seeley was able to hold on for second at the finish as he was chased across the line by July 27 winner, Dan Gardner who would finish right where he began the feature in position number three.

Morseman did everything he could do to win the 2024 Track Championship, but with Clayton Mclean’s fourth place finish it was enough for him to take home the title.

Two-time 2024 feature winner, Mike Spencer would go on to complete the top five after advancing a pair of spots from his original seventh starting position.

It was down to crunch time in Sawyer’s RV and Camper Repair Center Hobby Stock Division with no less than three drivers all having a chance at the 2024 Track Championship.

The current point leader entering the night, Brandon Conklin along Brian Austin would bring the eleven-car field to the opening green with Conklin immediately taking control of the twenty-lap event.

Scott Brown along with Dillon Philip both had a mathematical chance of claiming the title should Conklin experience any problems, however that would not be the case as he would go on to claim not only his sixth feature victory of 2024, but also the Track Championship to go along with it.

Philip lined up just ahead of Brown in row three and was able to keep Brown at bay throughout the distance to claim the runner-up finishing spot with Brown going on to round out the podium in third.

Lady competitor, Meadow Dgien of Cameron began the event inside row two, raced within the lead pack throughout and came home fourth with Collin Brown completing the top five.

Wesley Houghtaling was literally in the driver’s seat in the Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s Quad C twenty-lap feature for the combined front and rear wheel 4 Cylinder Mini Stock Division.

All Houghtaling had to do was begin the feature and put in a good showing to claim yet another Woodhull Raceway Track Championship.

After a disappointing heat race event, Houghtaling started the twenty-lap, fourteen-car A Main buried deep in spot twelve, however as he has done ten other times in 2024, he was able to point his potent #5 Front Wheel Driven creation towards the front of the field and go onto not only his eleventh trip to victory lane, but also another Woodhull Raceway Track Title.

Gerg Kiehl along with Kevin Ryce who began the event in the front starting row finished second and fourth respectively as they sandwiched the third-place finishing machine of Gregory Snell who drove from the eighth starting position.

Tony Dickerson dropped two spots from his original inside row two starting position to round the top five.

Houghtaling would go on to pick up eleven feature wins on the campaign versus three wins for the Rear Wheel Driven machine of Danielle Thomas as the pair would claim all the feature events staged during the regular point paying season.

Prior to intermission, Big Jim’s Wicked Tee’s Youth Warrior Division would run their customary ten lap feature and like Wesley Houghtaling, current point leader, Markus Kerr would enter the event with ten wins on the season and the point lead.

Kerr would go on to victory again on this night once again dominating the action picking up win eleven and the 2024 Warrior Track Championship, his first in class.

Finishing second was three-time 2024 feature winner, Kayleigh Morseman with July 13 winner, Izzabella Morseman coming home third.

Kolston Decamp, Caidin Thomas and Courtney Thomas completed the Warrior finishing order.

Congratulations to all competitors.

Superior Propane of Woodhull was onboard as the nightly event sponsor as the long time Woodhull Raceway Marketing Partner had representatives on hand to distribute feature winning plaques.

Up next at Woodhull it will be a Regular Show with the addition of the CRSA 305 Sprints which will be making their lone appearance of the 2024 season at the track.
