Knox Raceway Set To Open For 2023 Season

Story By: PAM BAKER / KNOX RACEWAY – KNOX, PA – Brian Steinman, owner of Knox Raceway is ready to get back to business with the opening event at the track to be held on Saturday, May 6th featuring the GSP Derby Organization. This event will be presented by Triple SSS Recycling and there will be six different divisions including the Power Wheels, Youth 4/6 Cylinder Stock, Mild Minivan/Min truck/Small SUV, Open Year Stock Full Size, Stock 4/6 Cylinder and Mild 4/6 Cylinder. Pit Gates will open at Noon with Tech starting for all cars immediately after pit gates open. The derby will start rain/shine at 6pm.

​On Sunday, May 7th there will be a Teen Driver Car Blessing and a Car Cruise-In from 6pm-8pm.  There will be a limited concession and are welcome to attend the Car Cruise.  There will be no registration fees and in the event of rain, the event will be cancelled and not rescheduled.  This event is sponsored by The Forge which is the Youth of Cornerstone Church, Shippenville, PA.

​The following weekend, May 14th presented by Heeter Lumber & Concrete the first of seven circle track events will feature the FAST 410-Winged Sprint Cars, the 270cc Micro Sprints and the 358 Modifieds.  Gates will open at 2pm.  There will be a meet and greet with drivers and their cars behind the grandstands from 2pm to 3pm.  Races will start at 5pm.  Grandstand admission is $15 and pit passes will be $30.

​To round out the month of May the first of five consecutive races in a row will be held as part of Western PA Sprint Speedweek on Wednesday, May 31st with gates opening at 4pm and racing starting at 7pm.  Running with the 410 Sprint Cars will be the RUSH Wingless Sprint Car division.  Western PA Sprint Speedweek will then move on to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Thursday night.  Friday night they will visit Lernerville Speedway and on Saturday night Sharon Speedway will host the event.  The final race of the series which will pay $3,000 to the point leader will round out at Tri City Raceway Park in Franklin, PA

​Over the winter there were some changes made at Knox Raceway.  There was removal of some of the lights in the infield and there have been some improvements to the track surface.  Brian and Brianna Steinman also purchased the former Colwell’s Campground now called Knox Campground since last season.  The campground located directly across the road from the racetrack will be primitive camping and is available for campers by making reservations.  Campfires will be allowed so bring your fire ring and some wood and enjoy yourself for the weekend.  You can call ahead for reservations by calling (814) 227-2600 and ask for LeAnne.  Camping for any weekend other than Music Weekend will be $40.  Camping for the July 14-15th Music weekend will be $50.  There will be fresh water available along with a dump station and trash disposal for all campers.

​Coming up July 14-15th will be Music Night with Friday night featuring Montgomery Gentry/ Eddie Montgomery, Gary Burke III & Perfect Timing.  The music will start at 7:30pm and you can purchase presale tickets for this event by calling (814) 227-2600.  Saturday will find David Lee Murphy, Gary Burke III and local talent Kaleb Beichner.  Gates will open at 5pm but for both days if you have presale tickets you may enter the facility at 4pm.  Prices for both nights will be $40.

There will be a parts truck and fuel for sale at the speedway and they will also have transponders for rent for each event. Knox Raceway and the Steinman’s are looking forward to their second season and with a little luck the weather will cooperate in the month of May which will make June, July, August and September that much better and a great place to spend your Sunday evenings.
