J.R. Fitzpatrick & Roy Wilkie Crowned Champions At Flamboro Speedway For ’23

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY – MILLGROVE, ONT – Consistency throughout the season saw a pair of drivers rewarded for their accomplishments, with J.R. Fitzpatrick and Roy Wilkie being crowned the Late Model and Super Stock Track Champions, respectively, at Flamboro Speedway.

J.R. Fitzpatrick led all 30 laps en route to winning the first feature ahead of Ty Cavallin. Cole Quinton crossed the finish line in third, but was disqualified post-race due to failing minimum weight as a result of the crew scrambling to be ready for the feature after issues in practice. Jake Gilbert and Billy Schwartzenburg completed the top-five ahead of Kevin Albers, Logan White, and David Gallinger.

J.R. Fitzpatrick took the lead on Lap 19, pacing the final 11 laps to sweep the night ahead of Kevin Albers, Cole Quinton, Logan White, Billy Schwartzenburg, and Jake Gilbert. Ty Cavallin and David Gallinger failed to finish.

Super Stocks

Roy Wilkie took the lead on Lap 8, pacing the final 12 laps to win the first feature ahead of Bailey Jacobs, Gerrit Tiemersma, Justin Collison, Nick Troback, Steve Cashmore, and Dave Evison.

Gerrit Tiemersma won the second feature in thrilling fashion, finding his way to the lead with just three laps to go. Roy Wilkie finished second to wrap up the championship in front of Bailey Jacobs, Justin Collison, Nick Troback, and Steve Cashmore. Dave Evison failed to finish.

Mini Stocks

Mike Thomson crossed the finish line as the winner in the first feature, but was disqualified post-race due to an illegal part. Michael Kenny was second ahead of Kaitlyn Wallace, Mike Gilmour, Rory Markle, Dave Goodacre, and Dylan Couturier.

With the part changed for the second feature, Mike Thomson drove his way from the back to take the victory in front of Kaitlyn Wallace, Michael Kenny, Mike Gilmour, Rory Markle, Dylan Couturier, and Dave Goodacre.

Pure Stocks

Wayde Thorne took the lead with five laps to go to win the first feature ahead of Leo Labarbera, Mark Allan, Spencer Riddell, and Phil Givens. Courtney Scott faded outside the top-five in the final laps for sixth in front of Jordan Willms, Brady Cox, Chase Mitchell, and James Houghton.

Eric Stewart was 11th in his return to the driver’s seat followed by Alex Stewart, Bobby Mercer, Nicole Givens, Rachel Mitchell, Jeff Kells, Megan Mitchell, and Chance Rogers. Owen Brooker and Dan Cormier failed to finish.

After battling to a top-five earlier in the same day at Sunset Speedway, James Houghton made the trek to Flamboro Speedway to win their second feature ahead of Jordan Willms, Wayde Thorne, Phil Givens, and Spencer Riddell. Leo Labarbera battled to sixth in front of Chase Mitchell, Alex Stewart, Eric Stewart, and Mark Allan.

Nicole Givens ran just outside the top-10 to place 11th followed by Bobby Mercer, Jeff Kells, Chance Rogers, Rachel Mitchell, Megna Mitchell, and Courtney Scott. Brady Cox failed to finish, while Owen Brooker and Dan Cormier did not take the green flag.

Southern Ontario Modified Association (SOMA)

Clay Morris took the lead with two laps to go to win the first feature ahead of Raj Brar, Vic Devries, Andrew Snyder, John Held, Kelly Martin, and Shawn Carey.

Rajan Brar took the advantage on Lap 2, pacing the rest of the way en route to winning the second feature in front of Clay Morris, Vic Devries, Andrew Snyder, and Kelly Martin. John Held failed to finish, while Shawn Carey did not take the green flag.

The next event scheduled will take place on Saturday, September 23, featuring Championship Night for the Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, Canadian Vintage Modifieds, and T.Q. Can-AM Midgets. There will also be the Legends and SOMA in action as well.
