John Baker Jr. Sweeps Ontario Modified Racing Series Features At Flamboro Speedway

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / ONTARIO MODIFIED RACING SERIES – MILLGROVE, ONT – While all the kids in the grandstands had smiles on their face at Flamboro Speedway after getting to ride in the racecars around the track, John Baker Jr. had a big smile as well.

Taking the lead on Lap 7, John Baker Jr. led the rest of the way en route to winning the first Ontario Modified Racing Series (OMRS) feature ahead of Tyler Bouillon, Alex Cuzzilla, Andrew Massey, and Robert Warnes. Rick Warnes placed sixth in front of Bob Franks and Randy Hollingsworth.

Despite an invert in play for the second feature, John Baker Jr. found his way to the top spot at the halfway mark to pace the rest of the way en route to winning ahead of Alex Cuzzilla, Tyler Bouillon, Robert Warnes, and Rick Warnes. Andrew Massey ran inside the top-five for the opening nine laps en route to sixth in front of Bob Franks and Randy Hollingsworth.

Canadian Vintage Modifieds

Taking the lead with nine laps to go, Ricky Willigar led the rest of the way en route to winning the first Canadian Vintage Modified feature ahead of Mike Podd, Quinton Murdoch, TJ Marshall, and Jae Pepin. Scott Tonelli was sixth in front of Steve Murdoch, Jessie James, and Joey Woolsey. Ian McIntyre failed to finish.

The invert played into TJ Marshall’s favor, as he took the lead on Lap 3 and did not look back en route to winning ahead of Quinton Murdoch, Scott Tonelli, Jae Pepin, and Jessie James. Ian McIntyre rebounded for sixth in front of Steve Murdoch, and Joey Woolsey. Mike Podd and Ricky Willigar did not take the checkered flag.

Super Stocks

Roy Wilkie led all 20 laps en route to winning the first Super Stock feature ahead of Bailey Jacobs and Paul Boundy. The second feature finished in the same order as the first, but with Wilkie only pacing the final nine laps this time around.

Mini Stocks

Making a rare appearance at Flamboro Speedway, Nolan Gould took the lead on Lap 2 to win the first Mini Stock feature ahead of Tyler Lewis, Kaitlyn Wallace, Michael Kenny, and Mike Gilmour. Mike Hooper battled to a sixth in front of Nikki King and Dave Goodacre, while Mike Thomson failed to finish after an on-track incident.

Mike Thomson rebounded in style, though, taking the checkered flag in the second feature ahead of Nolan Gould, Tyler Lewis, Mike Gilmour, and Kaitlyn Wallace. Michael Kenny was sixth in front of Mike Hooper, Dave Goodacre, and Nikki King.

Pure Stocks

Wayde Thorne took the lead on the third lap of the first feature for the Pure Stocks and did not look back en route to scoring the victory ahead of Jordan Willms, Gary Slama, Tyler Weale, and Cam Thomson. Fabio Olivieri ran inside the top-eight throughout to sixth in front of Leo Labarbera, Chance Rogers, Nicole Givens, and Chase Mitchell.

Caroline Kelly made her way through the field for 11th, followed by Mark Allan, Teagan Ellis, Jeff Kells, and Rcahel Mitchell. Spencer Riddell, Brady Cox, Rodney Rutherford, Dan Cornier, and Owen Brooker failed to finish.

After a frustrating couple of weeks, Cam Thomson found his way back to victory lane in the second feature ahead of Jordan Willms, Wayde Thorne, Gary Slama, and Leo Labarbera. Chase Mitchell ran inside the top-five most of the feature en route to sixth in front of Chance Rogers, Fabio Olivieri, Nicole Givens, and Caroline Kelly.

Spencer Riddell utilized a borrowed ride to 11th, followed by Teagan Ellis, Owen Brooker, and Rachel Mitchell. Jeff Kells and Brady Cox did not take the checkered flag, while Tyler Weale, Mark Allan, Rodney Rutherford and Dan Cornier failed to start the race.

Southern Ontario Modified Association (SOMA)

Shannon Morris led flag-to-flag in the first SOMA feature ahead of Cliff Hodgkinson, Liz McFarland, Mark Lucas, and Dario Cocco. Ken Mercer ran inside the top-five for the first half en route to sixth in front of Vic Devries, Clay Morris, and Rajan Brar. Andrew Snyder, John Herd and Bob Mercer did not take the green flag.

The invert played in Dario Cocco’s hands, as he took the lead on Lap 7 and did not look back en route to winning ahead of Shannon Morris, Liz McFarland, Ken Mercer, Cliff Hodgkinson, Clay Morris, and Andrew Snyder. Mark Lucas, Rajan Brar, John Herd and Vic Devries did not finish, while Bob Mercer failed to start the event.

The next event at Flamboro Speedway is taking place on Saturday, August 12, featuring the return of the Ontario Pro Challenge Series. The night will also include the Canadian Vintage Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks, and SOMA Modifieds. Fans will also get a chance to race head-to-head in their street vehicles if they wish with SPECTATOR DRAGS.
