Woodhull Raceway Loses April 22nd Season-Opening Event To Mother Nature

Story By: KENNY SHUPP / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – With a racing surface that was already saturated from overnight rains coupled with little or no drying conditions throughout race day, Woodhull Raceway owners, Terry and Niki Brewer decided to cancel their season opener early enough in the day to avoid any unnecessary travel by race teams and fans.

Added to that a late afternoon and evening forecast of substantial rain and extremely high winds and cold temperatures it made the decision much easier for the fourth -year owners of the historic Steuben County facility.

“We were fortunate to get in both of our practice dates on the two previous Saturday’s. The parking lots, pit area and racing surface were all in great shape heading into the April 22 season opener, but things turned for the worse over the past day and we felt it was in everyone’s best interest to just cancel early and focus on next Saturday.” That according to the Brewer’s.

Normally Woodhull schedules two practice dates with the hopes that they get one into the books simply because the area in and around the facility dries very slowly, however with an incredibly dry, warm and windy spring the track has dried nicely, thus practice went off perfectly with a racing surface in mid-season form.

All systems were go for the tracks traditional lid lifter, but Mother Nature had other plans and Woodhull, like numerous other race venues in the northeast pulled the plug early to allow teams and fans the opportunity to make other plans.

With the washout it sets up an aggressive night on, Saturday April 29, 2023 as Woodhull will have their first Great 8 Show of the 2023 season including the Insinger Performance Modifieds, the NAPA Crate Sportsman, Doug Gross Construction Rush Crate Late Models and Southern Tier Customs Street Stocks.

Also, seeing action will be the KMD Excavating Hobby Stocks along with the Wicked Tee’s sponsored Mini, FWD and Warrior Divisions.

Gates for the April 29 show open at 4:30 pm with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30 pm
