More Money! Ohio Valley’s Pete Smith Memorial Announces Additional Bonuses

Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / OHIO VALLEY SPRINT CAR ASSOCIATION – WASHINGTON, WV – With Ohio Valley Speedway’s annual Pete Smith Memorial less than one month away, event organizer and title sponsor, Darren Griffith of Briscoe Run Land Surveying, is excited to announce that even more support is being tilted toward West Virginia’s premier 410 sprint car event, now featuring additional bonus money for heat race finishers and Hard Luck Award recipients. The added money will pad an already lucrative program on August 11 that will be headlined with a $4,000-to-win, $400-to-start A-Main purse featuring the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA).

SERVPRO of Wood, Ritchie & Pleasants Counties, a trusted leader in the restoration industry with 24-hour emergency service in the Mid-Ohio Valley, is the most recent to join Ohio Valley Speedway’s Pete Smith Memorial, now the official partner of the event’s Hard Luck Award. In actuality, three recipients will be given Hard Luck Awards with the top recipient receiving $300, followed by $100 awards, respectively. Those wanting to learn more about SERVPRO can do so by contacting SERVPRO directly at (304) 428-7378, or visiting SERVPRO online at https://servprowoodritchiepleasantscounties.com/.

In addition, Jake Yost, honoring his father, James Yost, has stepped in to boost heat race competition even further at the annual Pete Smith Memorial, joining Wilfong Dental, Douglass & Company, Safelite Autoglass, and Pine Tree Towing in padding $600 toward each heat race purse. With all monies considered, each heat race winner will earn $275, with $125, $100, $60, and $40 being awarded to second through fifth, respectively.

“To think we are less than one month away from the event and still adding support is incredible. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of such a prestigious race, especially in my home state of West Virginia,” Darren Griffith said. “This is an exciting time for Ohio Valley Speedway, Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association, and the Pete Smith Family. We invite everyone to join us, competitors and fans alike, for this incredible event.”

As noted, the 2023 Pete Smith Memorial is packed top to bottom with contingencies and incentives, some of which include qualifying awards, heat race, hard charger, and hard luck bonuses, and feature lap money. Should the eventual champion lead the entire 25-lap program, the respective winner will earn well over $5,000.
