Spin-To-Win Becomes Theme Of Night Saturday Evening At Flamboro Speedway

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / FLAMBORO SPEEDWAY – MILLGROVE, ONT – While it was the invaders that joined the Pro Late Models, or the open-wheel superstars in the Canadian Vintage Modified, each division on track on Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway put on a great show for the fans in attendance.

Canadian Vintage Modifieds

Ricky Willigar put on a clinic in the first feature to pick up the checkered flag in front of Mike Podd, TJ Marshall, Quintin Murdoch, and Jason Keen. Jeremy Barton overcame issues in practice for sixth ahead of Steve Murdoch, Jessie James, Joey Woolsey, and Scott Tonelli.

TJ Marshall showed why he won the championship last season with his second checkered flag of 2023, followed by Ricky Willigar, Jason Keen, Mike Podd, and Jeremy Barton. Scott Tonelli put together a solid run in sixth ahead of Quintin Murdoch, Steve Murdoch, and Joey Woolsey. Jessie James did not take the green flag.

Pro Late Models

Starting on pole, Shawn Chenoweth led all 30 laps en route to winning the Pro Late Model feature ahead of J.R. Fitzpatrick, Kevin Albers, Josh Stade, and Blair Wickett. Cole Quinton had one of his strongest runs to date in sixth, followed by Ty Cavallin, Billy Schwartzenburg, Danny Benedict, and Kyle Steckly. Jake Gilbert was 11th in his return in front of Logan White and David Gallinger, while Steve Laking did not finish.

After going for a spin in the first feature, Kyle Steckly rebounded in style to win the second feature following a battle with Danny Benedict and J.R. Fitzpatrick. Josh Stade and Cole Quinton completed the top-five, ahead of Blair Wickett, Shawn Chenoweth, Ty Cavallin, Jake Gilbert, and Kevin Albers. Billy Schwartzenburg was 11th, in front of Logan White and David Gallinger. Steve Laking failed to finish once again.

Super Stocks

Roy Wilkie took over the lead with nine laps on the board, pacing the remaining six laps to win the first feature ahead of Nick Troback, Kelsey Lamont, and Justin Collison.

Mini Stocks

Mike Gilmour continues to be fast in his mustang, taking the lead at the halfway mark from Dale Millard to pick up the victory. Ryan Edwards-Kiss was third, with Mike Thomson and Blaise Shaw completing the top-five. Michael Kenny placed sixth in front of Jacob Sutcliffe, Mike Hooper, Mark Grieve, and Roy Markle. Bobby Mercer’s return to Flamboro saw him not take the checkered flag, while Cole Ecker hit the outside wall on the opening lap of the event. Kaitlyn Wallace was forced to pull off following mechanical issues.

After going for a spin in the first feature, Mike Thomson rebounded in style with a checkered flag the second time around. Mike Gilmour’s great year continues with a runner-up, ahead of Blaise Shaw, Bobby Mercer, and Michael Kenny. Dale Millard placed sixth, followed by Mike Hooper, Mark Grieve, Jacob Sutcliffe, and Roy Markle. Kaitlyn Wallace sustained more motor issues, while Ryan Edwards-Kiss and Cole Ecker did not take the green flag.

Pure Stocks

The good times keep rolling for Cameron Thomson, as he led flag-to-flag in the first feature while the battle raged on behind him. Delaware Speedway regular Jordan Wilms came out on top in second, in front of Spencer Riddell, Phil Givens, and Sterling Roberts. Leo Labarbera found some speed with a sixth ahead of Chance Rogers, Teegan Ellis, Tyler Weale, and Mark Allan.

Paul Huskins crossed the finish line in 11th, but was disqualified. Chase Mitchell scored a 12th in his first start of 2023, followed by Nicole Givens, Reece Bourgeois, and Allan Mattice. Alex Stewart and Owen Booker failed to finish.

The rebound would come together perfectly for Reece Bourgeois, as she turned a spin in the first feature into a checkered flag in the second. Jordan Wilms was second, while Paul Huskins crossed the finish line in third – only to be disqualified in post-race technical inspection. Nicole and Phil Givens completed the top-five, in front of Cameron Thomson, Mark Allan, Chase Mitchell, Alex Stewart, and Sterling Roberts.

Spencer Riddell was 11th, ahead of Leo Labarbera, Chance Rogers, Dan Cormier, Teegan Ellis and Owen Booker, while Tyler Weale did not finish.

The next event at Flamboro Speedway is taking place on Saturday, June 10 with the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario making their first stop of 2023 at the track for the Grisdale Racing Products 100. They will be joined by the T.Q. Can-Am Midget Series. Fans will have a chance to get up close to their heroes, with an on-track autograph session scheduled.
