Story By: WHITE MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS PARK – NORTH WOODSTOCK, NH – Once again the biggest date on the summer calendar, the Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250 for the invading American-Canadian Tour proved White Mountain Motorsports Park to be New Hampshire’s Favorite Short Track on Saturday.
A capacity crowd greeted the White Mountain players in all four divisions as Foley Oil & Propane Late Model heroes made their mark on the ACT crowd while track championship action kept the crowd on their toes all night long.
The evening’s racing activity started with the Midseason Championship make-up for the Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis. After qualifying for their double points feature over a month ago, Jason Goodbout Jr. and Donnie Baumgardner took the first green flag of the night. At lap six, leading rookie McKenna Merchant got crossed up in a borrowed, back-up ride taking Kristian Switser with her and sending Jacob Ailes and John Knight scattering to call out the first caution. Back under green, Baumgardner got the launch and took it all the way to the Midseason Championship victory followed by a rebounded Kristian Switser and defending track champion Chris Moulton coming from tenth on the grid.
Twelve Dads 4 By Tool & Supply Kids Division teams joined the Milton CAT fun at White Mountain on Saturday. The lone caution in their 15-lap feature would slow the field at the halfway point as early frontrunner Kylee Potter came to a sliding stop in turn one. Back under green, A.J. Sicard drove his Dukes of Hazzard-inspired ride to the front with Logan Farnsworth all over his rear bumper. While they finished one-two under the checkered flags, heat race winner Walker Fitch would round out the podium in third.
The Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tigers put on a wild 35-lap feature for the capacity crowd on hand for the Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250. Headed by longtime campaigner Joey Laquerre and Chandler Potter under the green flag, the field stretched themselves out and settled in but a lap 17 caution for the spinning John Donahue re-racked the field. Back on the hunt, Donahue flew up through the field under the restart only to be caught up with an exploding right rear tire on the Cooper French machine, sending French up into Donahue and calling the final caution on lap 23. Able to return, Donahue again flew up through the field but time ran out. Navigating his way through it all, Brandon Gray returned to White Mountain Motorsports Park victory lane with a smooth and consistent Chandler Potter in second and Jamon Perry in third.
The Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis returned to action as the final event before the big American-Canadian Tour 250-lap challenge with Jason Goodbout Jr. and Jillian Baumgardner at the helm. The first yellow would flash on lap 10 for Scott Senecal and Don Judd’s stop in the bottom of turn two with the restart proving no better for Goodbout, Anthony Gavell and Tyler Thompson with a second yellow. The field returned to green and drove their four-cylinder power-plants to the max for the final fifteen laps. Once again, it was all Donnie Baumgardner, this time driving up from an eighth-place starting spot with Chris Moulton in tow all the way to victory lane and Kristian Switser rounding out the podium.
After three rounds of qualifying for the ACT Milton CAT Midsummer Classic 250, Independence Day Foley Oil & Propane Late Model winner Ryan Olsen earned the pole position over former Fisher Auto Parts Flying Tiger champion, and current ACT rookie contender, Tanner Woodard. After former ACT winner at White Mountain Jimmy Hebert took over at the head of the thirty-one-car field, defending King of the Mountain Quinny Welch made his presence known early with a top-5 run at the leaders.
Following the first round of pit stops for fresh Hoosier Race Tires, Welch and current Late Model point leader Kasey Beattie paced the field before Hebert returned to lead following the lap 100 fueling break. A caution on lap 148 would see defending Wall’s Ford Platinum Series champion Derek Gluchacki take over the lead before tackling with current Wall’s Ford frontrunner Gabe Brown on lap 194 to call out the yellow once again.
In the final fifty laps, 2022 track championship runner-up Jesse Switser kept his nose up front and drove the wheels off his St. J Auto Chevy Camaro in constant stand-offs with top American-Canadian Tour names like Brian Hoar, Gluchacki, Brown and D.J. Shaw. After battling through all three rounds of qualifying, only getting in through his win in the B-Feature, West Burke, Vermont’s Jesse Switser took down his first career American-Canadian Tour victory at his hometrack to the tune of $10,000 with former Milton CAT 250 winner Dillon Moltz in second and Gabe Brown in third.
White Mountain Motorsports Park takes a week off before returning on Saturday, August 19th for the Central Asphalt Paving Flying Tiger Triple Crown Championship Event! Round #3 will determine the Central Asphalt Triple Crown champion while the Foley Oil & Propane Late Models and Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Minis also return to track championship action while the Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars run their Midseason Championship make-up and the Maine-based Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association invades the White Mountain highbanks!
