Unfavorable Ground Conditions Lead To Cancellation Of Racing At Ohsweken Friday Night

Story By: OHSWEKEN SPEEDWAY – OHSWEKEN, ONT – Ohsweken Speedway, regretfully, announces the cancellation of the racing event scheduled for Friday, August 25th, due to the persistent wet grounds caused by significant rainfall over the past three days.

This weather-induced saturation has impacted not only the racing track but also the pit area and the spectator parking lot.

Despite initial hopes for improvement, the weather conditions have not cooperated, and after careful assessment, the grounds and track crew have taken the difficult decision to cancel the event. General Manager Clinton Geoffrey stated, “Unfortunately, the weather is still damp and wet at the speedway. It has not dried up as was expected, and after assessing the situation, our grounds and track crew have made the tough decision to cancel.”

The scheduled races for tonight at Ohsweken Speedway have been officially called off due to compromised ground conditions that raise safety concerns. Speedway officials were proactive in their approach, holding off the decision to cancel in the hopes of a positive turn. Regrettably, the ongoing rainfall and lack of progress in drying the grounds, even as of 1:30 pm, left no viable option but to cancel.

Zeger VanThuyl, the track crew leader, conveyed the challenging situation, saying, “The entire property is saturated. We can’t even get started on track prep as it is still drizzling here.”

Ohsweken Officials are in close coordination with the Northeast Late Model Alliance (NLMA) to explore the possibility of rescheduling the Late Model Tour Race that was originally planned for tonight.

Racing enthusiasts and participants can look forward to the upcoming event at Ohsweken Speedway, which is scheduled for Friday, September 1st. The event, named “Back to School Backpack Night presented by Epic Racewear,” promises to bring excitement and action back to the track.
